As many of you know, I began with a heart open to blessing Israel as a nurse practitioner. Thanks to your support, I have been significantly impacted by volunteering with the Domari Society, a marginalized group in Israel, in the Fall of 2023 and the Spring of 2024.
The Domari people originated in India. Instead of migrating westward like the Romani Gypsies, they traveled east and were known as the Domari Gypsies. This group first made its way to Persia, where they served as metalworkers, tinkers, dancers, and musicians. Unfortunately, some members of this group were enslaved and brought to what is now known as Palestine or Israel.
During my time volunteering, I assisted other service groups at the Domari Society's headquarters, where I helped clean and organize grocery and clothing bags for those visiting the food pantry and clothing pantry. Additionally, I assisted with outdoor projects as required.
In the fall of 2024, I wanted to expand my volunteer work, and the Anglican International School needed an interim school nurse. They urgently needed someone to cover Wednesdays while waiting for a substitute school registered nurse to start.
On Saturdays, I worked with the Missionaries of Charity (the Mother Teresa nuns) to provide services to the homeless and marginalized in Tel Aviv. This included outreach to individuals struggling with addiction, homelessness, and human trafficking. The Sisters brought these forgotten individuals food, hot coffee, clothes, and compassion. They entrusted me with their medical bag, allowing me to provide basic medical care, which was in high demand.
My heart is dedicated to service, and I strongly desired to travel to India. This December, I was able to participate in various mini-medical educational camps. I plan to return with a group to collaborate with other Indian healthcare professionals at additional medical camps and alongside the Missionaries of Charity in Kolkata.
I aim to serve for two weeks at the Mother Teresa House and/or the Dying House in Kolkata. Following that, a team of medical and educational professionals will travel to Siliguri to work with local healthcare providers to deliver medical care and education.
Will you consider supporting us? The cost per person is approximately $2,500, and there are five of us going for a total cost of $12,500. This funding will cover our visas, travel expenses, medical supplies, housing, food, and other necessary resources for our volunteer work.
If you’d like your donation to support a specific team member, please include their name under memo with your contribution.
Thank you for your generosity and support!
